Group Sessions
Belonging begins with being understood.
Re:Shift group sessions are small, safe, and responsive spaces where young people can connect with others while exploring the things that matter to them. There are no forced icebreakers or big circles of uncomfortable sharing, just carefully held space, creative tools, and a flexible approach designed to support trust and participation at the young person’s own pace.
Group sessions are typically run in settings like alternative provision schools, children’s homes, supported accommodation settings, or community hubs, and are co-designed with partners to reflect the needs and interests of the young people involved.
Sessions might explore:
- Emotional literacy and mental health
- Identity, relationships, and transitions
- Creative storytelling or self-image
- Music, movement, and media
- Building routines and managing change
Activities are interactive but low-pressure, collaging, shared playlists, themed discussions, journaling, or co-designed zines, for example. Some groups evolve into safe peer communities, while others offer a short, focused opportunity for reflection and connection.
Our Group Approach
Our group work follows the same principles as all Re:Shift practice:
- Safety first – We keep group sizes small, and we never force participation. Young people can join in as much or as little as they like.
- Creative and relational – Sessions are built around real-world topics, not worksheets or pre-set programmes. We use music, visuals, and storytelling to spark insight and connection.
- Respectful of differences – Some young people will stay silent for weeks before they speak. That’s okay. We respect each person’s process and protect their emotional safety.
- Staffed by practitioners who “get it” – Our team creates space with care, holds boundaries with respect, and gently draws young people into connection through trust.
Commissioning a Group?
We offer themed group packages, rolling sessions, and custom-designed group offers. These can be used to support placement stability, education re-engagement, emotional health, or life skills.
